Door frame repair vs replacement: how to decide

Not every damaged frame needs to be replaced. Here's how we decide on site.

Repair is usually right when

• The damage is in the bottom 15–40 cm of the frame
• The frame is still firmly fixed in the wall
• The door still hangs and closes properly
• You want to keep your existing door and finish

Replacement is usually right when

• Rot or termites run more than about half the height of the frame
• The frame is loose or twisted in the opening
• You are replacing the door anyway, or changing the door size

Typical costs

Bottom-section repair starts from $150 per side, or $250 for both sides. Full frame replacement is quoted from photos, and may also need tile or plaster touch-up. Full details on our price page.
